At Matriarch Hill Safari we help two women's organizations in particular, Give a Heart to Africa & The Network Against Female Genital Mutilation(NAFGEM). These two groups hold a special place in our hearts and we have seen, first hand, the mark they make on the community.
In the patriarchal society of Tanzania, only 5% of girls finish secondary school. Without education and guidance, most women end up serving their husbands or struggling to provide as a single parent. Give a Heart to Africa (GHTA) is a non-profit organization that empowers women with the skills to improve their situations and pull themselves out of poverty by providing free vocational training. You can find out more about GHTA here: www.giveahearttoafrica.org
The Network Against Female Genital Mutilation (NAFGEM) is an association of NGOs dedicated to ending female genital mutilation and other harmful traditions affecting women in Tanzania. NAFGEM raises awareness among grass-roots communities, where these customs are still being practiced, through holding educational seminars, training workshops, and sensitization and awareness campaigns at various community events.
