Matriarch Hill Mt Kilimanjaro treks are among the finest on the mountain. Well-experienced guides, all Wilderness First Responder (WFR) trained. All speak excellent English (guides fluent in other languages can be arranged in advance). Daily health checks monitor respiration, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and blood sugar, among other things. Our cook will prepare appealing, high-energy, easily digested meals to give you the best chance of reaching the summit. You will wake up to a hot cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate. Our team of porters will work hard behind the scenes to make sure that you arrive at camp with your tent and gear ready for you, with hot water to wipe away the grit from the trail.
Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on earth that can be scaled without technical gear or training. it is termed a “walk-up” mountain. But it is by no means easy. At the summit, there is only half the available oxygen in each breath you take compared to sea level. It takes an experienced guide to help you acclimatize properly. There is a percentage of people that just don’t do well at high altitudes, and unless you have experienced high altitudes before, there is no easy way of knowing how well your body adjusts. The more days you spend on the mountain, the easier it is for your body to adjust.
Matriarch Hills offers the three most popular routes on Kilimanjaro - Lemosho, Machame, and Marangu Route. Of these three, Marangu is notably different in that overnights are spent in dormitory-style huts, self-contained and with solar-powered lighting. Marangu Route is a short route and is the only route where the path down is the same as the path going up. That gives less variety in scenery and makes the camps more crowded with climbers going in both directions and spending overnight. The other routes are camping routes. Machame and Lemosho are more scenic and offer better acclimatization.
